Frequently Asked Questions

Autoclave, thermal disinfector (washer-disinfector) or sealing device – the key things before you buy, clearly answered.

What is a Class B autoclave – and why does it matter?

A Class B autoclave sterilises with saturated steam and a fractionated pre-vacuum. This means hollow items, porous materials and packaged instruments are reliably reached too – it is the most versatile standard for benchtop autoclaves and the safe choice for demanding instruments. Our Class B autoclaves comply with EN 13060 and are CE-certified (via TÜV SÜD).

Which device do I need – autoclave, washer-disinfector or sealing device?

The three devices cover the complete reprocessing cycle: the thermal disinfector (washer-disinfector) cleans and disinfects the instruments by machine, the sealing device packs them germ-tight, and the autoclave sterilises them. Small practices or studios often start with an autoclave (+ sealing device); a washer-disinfector is added when volumes are higher. Which combination and size suits your workflow is shown by our configurator – or our team will advise you directly.

How long does a sterilisation cycle take?

That depends on the programme and the load. Quick programmes of small devices are finished in around 7 minutes (3 L device); classic Class B cycles including drying take correspondingly longer. This way the device can be matched to your day-to-day practice or studio routine.

Does an autoclave need a water connection?

Our benchtop autoclaves operate by default with an internal tank and do not require a fixed water connection – what matters is treated (demineralised) water, e.g. with our AQUAdem 40 water treatment system. In addition, all Steri24 devices can optionally be ordered with a water connection: the autoclave can then be connected directly to a water treatment system such as the AQUAdem 40, or to an existing water treatment installation from another manufacturer (a suitable pressure reducer is optionally available in the shop). A washer-disinfector (thermal disinfector) is permanently connected to the water supply and drain anyway; our on-site service handles this during installation.

What is a washer-disinfector (thermal disinfector) – and do I need one?

A washer-disinfector cleans and thermally disinfects the instruments by machine before they are sterilised. This is reproducible, can be documented and relieves the team of manual cleaning. It is particularly useful for higher instrument volumes, in clinics and wherever the entire reprocessing process needs to be fully verifiable.

Why a sealing device – and what should it be able to do?

So that instruments remain sterile after sterilisation, they are packed and sealed in sterilisation pouches beforehand. A sealing device produces the required, verifiable seal seam and should be validatable. A continuous sealing device with an automatic cutting function makes packaging especially fast and uniform.

Do the devices meet the legal requirements (RKI, standards)?

Our autoclaves comply with EN 13060 and are CE-certified (via TÜV SÜD). For RKI-compliant documentation there is SteriTrace: paperless batch release and complete traceability – ideal for inspections and quality management. In Austria and Switzerland, partly different requirements apply (e.g. ÖNorm); we advise you to suit your country.

Is installation complicated?

No. Benchtop autoclaves and sealing devices are essentially ready to connect. On request, we handle delivery and on-site installation – including connection to the water supply and drain for the washer-disinfector. We also take care of the proper disposal of your old device on site.

How do maintenance, validation and repair work?

We run our own on-site service network across the entire DACH region with a 24h emergency number. Maintenance, validation/requalification and repairs come directly from us – not via third parties. Within the warranty, travel and repair are free of charge.

How often does an autoclave need to be revalidated?

As a rule of thumb, requalification (a renewed performance assessment) should take place after 1 year or at the latest after 2,000 sterilisation cycles. Extending the interval to up to 2 years or 4,000 cycles is only permitted under certain documented conditions (among others, assessments of earlier tests must be available) – and is therefore usually not yet possible directly after the initial validation. The basis is the relevant DIN requirements (including DIN 58946-7, DIN ISO TS 17665-2, DIN EN 13060, DIN SPEC 58929). Defining and documenting the interval is the operator's responsibility – our service carries out validation and requalification on site and supports the documentation.

I don't know Steri24 – why should I buy here?

Steri24 is a brand of CertoClav Sterilizer GmbH, a family-run manufacturer from Austria with over 60 years of experience (since 1957). Instead of large advertising budgets, we rely on fair prices, certified quality (EN 13060, CE/TÜV SÜD) and a genuine on-site service network – something many more expensive providers do not offer in this form. You can read what our customers say in the reviews further up the page.

What does a device cost – and is instalment payment available?

Class B autoclaves start at around 1,399 €, sealing devices from around 475 €. On request, instalment payment (e.g. via Klarna or PayPal) is possible, and for larger investments there is a leasing calculator. The exact price – including the right configuration – is determined in the configurator. Tip: a new device with full warranty and service is usually the safer and, in the end, more economical choice than a used device.

How fast is delivery, and how do I reach support?

Delivery is usually prompt; it is free from 1,200 € net. If you have questions, you can reach us by phone, and in an emergency around the clock via the 24h emergency number. We provide technical support and service ourselves – not via third parties. Depending on the device, you also receive 2 to 3 years of warranty.
