Frequently Asked Questions

Foot Care Practice – key questions answered clearly.

Which autoclave is suitable for a foot care practice?
For foot care, the compact Klasse B Autoclave Pro 3 L is usually the most popular choice: small, fast and space-saving. For more treatments per day or several staff members, we recommend the 12 L Pro with significantly more capacity. The best approach is to fill out our configurator, then we will find the right device together.
Do I even need an autoclave in foot care?
As soon as you use instruments that come into contact with blood or mucous membranes (critical instruments), a Klasse B autoclave is required. This is regularly the case in foot care with pliers, scalpels and burrs. Ultrasonic, UV or hot-air devices are not sufficient for this.
What does Klasse B mean for an autoclave?
Klasse B is the highest sterilization class and enables the reprocessing of wrapped and unwrapped, solid, hollow and porous instruments using a fractionated vacuum process according to EN 13060. For practices that reprocess critical instruments, a Klasse B device is the correct standard.
Isn't a cheaper Class N device enough for foot care?
No. Class N may only sterilize unwrapped, solid instruments and is not suitable for reprocessing critical instruments. For safe, RKI-compliant reprocessing in foot care, you need a Klasse B device.
Is a Klasse B autoclave mandatory in foot care?
If you reuse critical instruments that come into contact with blood, steam sterilization with a Klasse B autoclave is the authoritative standard. You can only do without it if exclusively non-critical instruments or single-use products are used. When in doubt, we are happy to advise you.
Is validation mandatory for a foot care practice?
As soon as you reprocess instruments that come into contact with blood, validation is also mandatory in foot care. In pure foot care without critical instruments it is often omitted; however, it can be carried out at any time later.
What does the validation of an autoclave mean?
During validation, it is documented and proven that your autoclave reliably sterilizes under your specific conditions. It is the basis for audit-proof reprocessing and is carried out on site. Steri24 handles the initial validation and revalidation throughout DACH.
Does Steri24 perform the validation on site in my practice?
Yes. We carry out initial validation and revalidation on site and also take care of regular maintenance. This way you do not have to send in the device and you receive all records directly for your inspection.
At what interval must revalidation be performed?
Revalidation is carried out at regular intervals, usually annually, depending on usage and device-specific requirements. We schedule this for you and come on site. We discuss the exact intervals as part of a maintenance or validation contract.
Can I also do the initial validation later?
Yes. The validation can be done later; the device can generally be used beforehand. It makes sense to carry out the initial validation as soon as possible after commissioning. Get in touch with us and we will schedule the appointment.
Do I meet the RKI requirements with a Steri24 autoclave?
Yes. All our devices are Klasse B according to EN 13060. You document every batch audit-proof via USB and thermal printer; we handle validation and maintenance on site. This way you are well prepared for the inspection.
How do I document sterilization in an RKI-compliant way?
With the integrated thermal printer and the USB backup, you create a traceable protocol for every batch. You can print the protocols directly or save them to USB, simple and audit-proof for the inspection, entirely without complicated technology.
Do I need a sealing device for foot care?
For foot care, self-sealing sterilization pouches are usually sufficient, inexpensive and uncomplicated in everyday use. A sealing device is therefore not absolutely necessary. If you package larger quantities, a sealing device can still be useful.
What is the difference between the 3 L and the 12 L?
The 12 L offers four times the volume and an integrated waste water tank, the quick program takes a little longer. Otherwise the devices are technically identical. The 3 L is more compact and faster, the 12 L is a good choice for full treatment days.
How long does a sterilization cycle take?
A cycle takes a different amount of time depending on the program and load; the quick program of the compact device is around 7 minutes. Wrapped or hollow instruments require longer programs. The exact times depend on the model and load.
Do I need a fixed water connection?
No. All devices have an integrated fresh and waste water tank and can be operated manually filled without a fixed water connection, ideal for small practices. From 12 L, a fixed water connection can optionally be ordered, which is practical for frequent use.
Which water must I use for the autoclave?
Use distilled or demineralized water to avoid limescale deposits and water quality messages. With our AQUAdem water treatment unit you can conveniently produce suitable feed water yourself. Tap water is not suitable.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. Installment payment is possible via Klarna or PayPal, so you can conveniently spread the purchase over several months, without a large upfront investment. Just get in touch with us, we will help with the selection.
Are there interest charges or fees for installment payment?
The conditions depend on the chosen provider and payment model and are shown to you transparently before conclusion. You can see which options are available to you in the order process or find out in a short consultation.
Which payment methods do you offer?
You can pay via PayPal, Klarna, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) or bank transfer; for business customers, payment by invoice is also possible depending on the case. Installment payment runs via Klarna or PayPal. You can see the options available in your individual case at checkout.
Can I pay by invoice or bank transfer?
Bank transfer is possible; we offer purchase by invoice depending on the customer group and order, for example for public institutions and existing customers. Get in touch with us, then we will clarify the right payment method for your order.
Is leasing possible for an autoclave?
Yes, leasing is generally possible; however, for most small foot care practices, installment payment via Klarna or PayPal is the simpler and often more affordable alternative. We are happy to prepare a suitable offer for you.
What happens to my old autoclave?
We advise you on switching, take back your old device and dispose of it properly, also regardless of manufacturer. This way you do not have to worry about anything and the change runs smoothly.
My current device is getting on in years, is a new purchase worthwhile?
Many foot care studios switch to us because their autoclave is getting on in years and they are looking for an affordable, simple device with good service. A new Klasse B device brings up-to-date documentation, warranty and on-site service. We are happy to advise you on switching.
How quickly is delivery and installation done?
Devices are usually available at short notice. On request, we handle delivery, installation and commissioning in accordance with the applicable requirements as well as the initial validation on site. We arrange the exact date with you.
Can I set up and commission the autoclave myself?
The compact 3 L can be easily set up and switched on without a fixed water connection. However, for standard-compliant commissioning and the initial validation, we recommend our on-site service so that all records are available. We come to you throughout DACH.
Is a normal socket enough or do I need three-phase current?
The compact devices for foot care run on a normal household socket; three-phase current is not required. We are happy to tell you the exact connection value of your desired model in advance.
How much space does the autoclave need?
The compact 3 L fits on almost any work surface and is particularly space-saving. Larger models are designed for countertops from approx. 55 to 58 cm in depth. We are happy to provide you with the exact dimensions of your desired model.
Does the autoclave have to be in a separate room?
In small foot care practices, the device is usually set up in the reprocessing area; what matters is a clean separation of the unclean and clean areas. Ensure sufficient ventilation and clearance. We are happy to advise you on a sensible arrangement.
How do I clean and disinfect instruments before sterilization?
Before sterilization, instruments must be cleaned and disinfected, ideally in an ultrasonic cleaner or washer-disinfector. Only then are they wrapped and sterilized in the autoclave. This sequence is a prerequisite for a safe result.
Is an ultrasonic cleaner alone sufficient?
No. The ultrasonic cleaner complements the autoclave for pre-cleaning, but does not replace it. For critical instruments, sterilization with a Klasse B autoclave is required afterwards.
Which accessories do I need in addition to the autoclave?
Self-sealing sterilization pouches, an ultrasonic cleaner for pre-cleaning, as well as consumables and indicators are useful. Our value packs bundle the matching accessories at a discount. What exactly you need we determine via the configurator.
What is included in a value pack?
Our value packs bundle the autoclave and matching accessories at a discount and usually contain everything important for instrument reprocessing, such as pouches, indicators and consumables. This way you start without gaps. The configurator puts together the right bundle for your practice.
Do instruments have to be sterilized wrapped?
Instruments that are not used immediately should be sterilized wrapped so that they can be stored sterile. For direct use, unwrapped sterilization is also possible. The Klasse B autoclave handles both variants.
How long do wrapped instruments remain sterile?
Correctly wrapped instruments stored dry and protected from dust remain sterile over a longer period; the exact storage time depends on the packaging and storage conditions. Damaged or moist packaging is considered no longer sterile.
When do I label the pouches with the batch number?
The labeling of the sterilization films is done before autoclaving so that the ink does not get inside; the batch number assigns the sterile goods to the protocol. This way every batch remains traceably documented.
Does the autoclave indicate whether sterilization was successful?
Yes. The device reports at the end of the cycle whether the process was successful and documents the result in the protocol. In addition, you can use chemical and biological indicators as well as helix and vacuum tests for monitoring.
The sterile goods are still wet after the program, what should I do?
Residual moisture often arises from overloading, incorrect loading or a shortened drying step. Distribute the pouches with spacing, avoid stacking and use the appropriate program. If the problem persists, our service can help.
The device reports poor water quality, what can I do?
Use only distilled or demineralized water and replace old tank water. If that does not help, a sensor or filter may be affected. In this case, contact our support, we will assist you quickly.
My autoclave cannot be opened after the program, what should I do?
For safety reasons, the door remains locked as long as there is residual pressure or high temperature; wait until the device has fully completed the cycle and released pressure. If the door cannot be opened afterwards, contact our service.
My autoclave no longer turns on, what should I do?
First check the power connection, fuse and main switch. If the device still does not respond, fill out our service form or call us; a technician will get back to you with a proposed solution. We help quickly, in an emergency also on weekends.
How quickly is someone on site in the event of a defect?
Steri24 operates a dense on-site service network with 39 locations and over 150 partners in DACH as well as a 24h emergency service, also on weekends. This way you are not alone in the event of a malfunction. The exact response time depends on the location and agreement.
Is there a loan or replacement device during maintenance or a defect?
Depending on the situation and agreement, we can support you with a bridging solution so that your reprocessing can continue. Contact us early and we will find the best solution for your practice.
How often does the autoclave have to be serviced?
Maintenance is carried out at regular intervals, usually annually, to ensure reliability and safety. We handle maintenance and validation on site and schedule both together. We clarify the exact conditions in the maintenance contract.
Are there maintenance and warranty options?
As standard, we offer a warranty on our devices, extendable by concluding a maintenance contract. We offer maintenance and validation at a fixed price including travel. We are happy to tell you the specific terms and conditions.
How long do the devices last?
Our Klasse B autoclaves are designed for a long service life; with regular maintenance and suitable water, they achieve many years of reliable operation. Low maintenance costs and long-term spare parts availability are part of that for us.
I don't know Steri24, why should I switch?
Steri24 sells directly, without the detour via depots or middlemen, and handles the service itself. This way you receive a dense on-site service network like with established expensive suppliers, but at fairer prices, manufacturer since 1957.
Are the prices really cheaper than at established suppliers?
Yes. Because we sell directly from the manufacturer without middlemen, we offer comparable Klasse B performance significantly cheaper than established higher-priced suppliers, with our own on-site service. Comparative statements refer generally to higher-priced suppliers, without naming specific brands.
Do you offer used devices?
As a rule, we offer exclusively new devices with warranty; we generally do not carry used devices. Occasionally there are compact demo devices with a small discount. An affordable new purchase also avoids the risk of a used device.
What reviews are there from foot care?
