Frequently asked questions
Autoclave, washer-disinfector or sealing device – the essentials before you buy, clearly answered.
What is a Class B autoclave – and why does it matter?
A Class B autoclave sterilises with saturated steam and a fractionated pre-vacuum. This reliably reaches hollow instruments, porous materials and wrapped loads as well – it is the most versatile standard for benchtop autoclaves and the safe choice for demanding instruments. Our Class B autoclaves comply with EN 13060 and are CE-certified (via TÜV SÜD).
Which device do I need – autoclave, washer-disinfector or sealing device?
The three devices cover the complete reprocessing cycle: the washer-disinfector cleans and disinfects instruments mechanically, the sealing device packs them germ-tight, and the autoclave sterilises them. Small practices or studios often start with an autoclave (+ sealing device); as volumes grow, a washer-disinfector is added. Our configurator shows which combination and size suits your workflow – or our team advises you directly.
How long does a sterilisation cycle take?
That depends on the programme and the load. Quick programmes on small units finish in around 7 minutes (3 L unit); classic Class B cycles including drying take correspondingly longer. This lets you match the device to the daily routine of your practice or studio.
Does an autoclave need a water connection?
Our benchtop autoclaves work with an internal tank as standard and require no fixed water connection – what matters is treated (demineralised) water, for example from our AQUAdem 40 water treatment unit. In addition, all Steri24 devices can optionally be ordered with a water connection: the autoclave can then be connected directly to a water treatment system such as the AQUAdem 40, or to an existing system from another manufacturer (a matching pressure reducer is optionally available in the shop). A washer-disinfector is permanently connected to the water supply and drain anyway; our on-site service takes care of that during installation.
What is a washer-disinfector – and do I need one?
A washer-disinfector cleans and thermally disinfects instruments mechanically before they are sterilised. The process is reproducible, documentable and relieves the team of manual cleaning. Particularly worthwhile with higher instrument volumes, in clinics and wherever the entire reprocessing chain has to be fully verifiable.
Why a sealing device – and what should it be able to do?
So that instruments stay sterile after sterilisation, they are packed into sterilisation pouches and sealed beforehand. A sealing device creates the verifiable seal seam required for this and should be validatable. A continuous sealing device with an automatic cutter makes packing particularly fast and even.
Do the devices meet the legal requirements (standards, guidelines)?
Our autoclaves comply with EN 13060 and are CE-certified (via TÜV SÜD). For documentation in line with the RKI recommendations there is SteriTrace: paperless batch release and complete traceability – ideal for inspections and quality management. In Austria and Switzerland some requirements differ (e.g. ÖNorm); we advise you according to your country.
Is installation complicated?
No. Benchtop autoclaves and sealing devices are essentially ready to plug in. On request we handle delivery and on-site installation – for the washer-disinfector including connection to water supply and drain. We also dispose of your old device properly on site.
How do maintenance, validation and repairs work?
We run our own on-site service network across the whole DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), with a 24-hour emergency number. Maintenance, validation/requalification and repairs come directly from us – not via third parties. Within the warranty period, call-out and repair are free of charge.
How often does an autoclave have to be requalified?
As a rule of thumb, requalification (renewed performance assessment) should take place after 1 year, or after 2,000 sterilisation cycles at the latest. Extending the interval to up to 2 years or 4,000 cycles is only permitted under certain documented conditions (among other things, assessments of earlier tests must be available) – so usually not straight after the initial validation. The basis are the relevant DIN specifications (including DIN 58946-7, DIN ISO TS 17665-2, DIN EN 13060, DIN SPEC 58929). Defining and documenting the interval is the responsibility of the operator – our service carries out validation and requalification on site and supports you with the documentation.
I have never heard of Steri24 – why should I buy here?
Steri24 is a brand of CertoClav Sterilizer GmbH, a family-run manufacturer from Austria with more than 60 years of experience (since 1957). Instead of large advertising budgets we rely on fair prices, tested quality (EN 13060, CE/TÜV SÜD) and a genuine on-site service network – something many more expensive suppliers do not offer in this form. What our customers say, you can read in the reviews above.
What does a device cost – and is instalment payment available?
Class B autoclaves start at approx. €1,399, sealing devices from approx. €475. On request, payment by instalments is possible (e.g. via Klarna or PayPal); for larger investments there is a leasing calculator. The exact price – including a suitable configuration – comes out of the configurator. Tip: a new device with full warranty and service is usually the safer and ultimately cheaper choice compared with a second-hand unit.
How fast is delivery, and how do I reach support?
Delivery is usually quick; it is free from €1,199 net. If you have questions you can reach us by phone, and in an emergency around the clock via the 24-hour emergency number. We provide technical support and service ourselves – not through third parties. Depending on the device you also receive 2 to 3 years of warranty.
