Control tests to measure the ability to remove air pockets from porous objects. Only suitable for class B autoclaves. The purpose of this test is to gain an insight into the quality of vapour penetration in a package. In other words, whether the autoclave is working properly. A complete colour change in a Bowie & Dick test indicates that complete steam penetration is taking place in the test pack. Failure of the test is due to the presence of air in the test pack. This can be caused by a malfunction of the autoclave.
