Control tests to measure the ability to remove air pockets from porous items. Only suitable for class B autoclaves. The purpose of this test is to gain insight into the quality of steam penetration in a package. In other words, whether the autoclave is working properly. A complete color change in a Bowie & Dick test indicates that there is complete vapor penetration in the test pack. Failure of the test is due to the presence of air in the test pack. This can be caused by a malfunction of the autoclave.
